The core research line of the group is based on the study of the mechanisms that trigger neuroinflammation at the CNS level, in their control to identify new targets to offer neuroprotection, and in the search for prognostic biomarkers related to inflammation and oxidative stress, with emphasis on pathologies such as stroke and traumatic brain injury. Specifically, our group focuses on the study of the mechanisms that control the activation of the innate immune system (NLRP3 inflammasome) and its application to the search of new therapeutic targets and of new prognostic/diagnostic biomarkers in stroke, traumatic brain injury and in neurodegenerative diseases. Another research line is focused on the study of how hypoxia affects Blood-Brain Barrier stability.
